The Special Comptroller of the Republic, Juan Pablo Soteldo, announced this Wednesday that the officials of the Legitimate Government of Venezuela will have to make their Affidavit of Assets as of March 1st.
Said announcement is given in compliance with the provisions of Legislative Gazette number 41, dated February 18th, 2021, which establishes the modality to comply with the declaration of assets to officials who exercise high-level positions and trust in the Bodies and Entities indicated in the Law for the Organization and Functioning of the Council of the Comptroller’s Office of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
“Any official who is part of the Presidency in Charge of the Republic, National Assembly, Office of the Special Prosecutor, Presidential Commissions, administrative bodies that are part of the Legitimate Public Power, State companies incorporated abroad, boards of directors and Ad Hoc officials appointed by the President In Charge of the Republic, foundations and associations that receive and manage resources from assets of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, must comply with the requirement stipulated in the Law,” said Comptroller Soteldo.
Similarly, the official explained that said measure was approved “by virtue of our guiding principles, such as: honesty, participation, speed, effectiveness, efficiency, transparency, accountability and responsibility.”
“The Organic Law of the Comptroller General of the Republic and the National System of Fiscal Control, as well as the Law for the Organization and Functioning of the Council of the Comptroller of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela gives us the power to request sworn statements of assets from officials of the public sector and to individuals who have acted as such and to those who in any way contract, negotiate or carry out operations related to public assets,” he said.
The Office of the Special Comptroller of the Republic has created a web portal that will allow compliance with this obligation: http://www.consejodecontraloria.org/djp/auth
Soteldo clarified that “people who were part of the Legitimate Government and are no longer in office, are likewise required to declare in compliance with the Law.”
“I call on all those required to declare to do so in the indicated time, from March 1st to March 31st of this year,” the official concluded.
