On the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the Red Cross, the National Assembly (NA) approved an agreement in which it expresses its support, solidarity and recognition of the volunteers and directors of the Venezuelan Red Cross in the person of its President Mario Villarroel Lander, for the work it has carried out in Venezuela through its hospital network.
The document was presented by Deputy William Barrientos during the ordinary session of the National Assembly held this Wednesday, March 4th, in the auditorium of the María Auxiliadora School, located in the Altamira urbanization.
Furthermore, the Zulia deputy recognized the Red Cross as a fundamental organization not only in Venezuela, but also in the world in terms of humanitarian aid and medical assistance.
“In Venezuela it has played a fundamental role in the crisis situation the country is going through, since it has dedicated all its infrastructure to support the most disadvantaged people in the face of the inhumane blockade by the regime that doesn’y allow humanitarian aid to enter the country,” said the parliamentarian.
It was agreed, as the document states, to recognize and respect the protective symbols around the world such as the Red Cross, Red Crescent and Red Crystal. Likewise, the Legislative Power will promote everything necessary and pertinent to comply with international commitments that guarantee the full exercise of Red Cross activities in Venezuela, especially those related to International Humanitarian Law.
It was also agreed to appoint a special parliamentary commission to deliver this agreement at the headquarters of the Venezuelan Red Cross.
