The recently constituted Delegate Commission of the legitimate National Assembly of Venezuela, that emanated from the last democratic elections held in 2015, through its Board of Directors, led by the president in charge Juan Guaidó, appreciates the support of High Representative Josep Borrell for the cause of freedom in our country.
The European Union, through its High Representative, has rejected the electoral fraud perpetrated by the dictatorship and does not consider that its result is representative of the democratic will of the Venezuelan people.
In its declaration, the European Union requires usurpers to guarantee respect and protection of human rights and to cease acts of repression, particularly against members of the opposition.
The European Union wishes, in line with the demands of the Venezuelan democratic forces, that free, fair and verifiable presidential, legislative and local elections be held.
The legitimate National Assembly is particularly grateful for the explicit recognition that the European Union makes in particular of Juan Guaidó and also of other representatives of the Assembly, the only body that the Union recognizes as representative of the democratic will of Venezuela.
For all these reasons, the legitimate National Assembly recognizes and thanks, on behalf of all Venezuelans and all democratic political forces, the support of the 27 member states of the European Union.
Our people, who suffer the oppression of a corrupt and cruel dictatorship accused of crimes against humanity, feel in a special way the recognition of the European Union upon arrival at this crucial moment, in which the dictatorship intends to perpetrate its latest usurpation.
President Juan Guaidó and the deputies of the legitimate National Assembly renew their commitment to the European Union and the international community to continue fighting tirelessly for democracy and freedom in our country.
