The presidential commissioner for foreign affairs, Julio Borges, said that the new report of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, reveals the links between Nicolas Maduro’s dictatorship and narco-terrorist groups.
“This new report by High Commissioner Bachelet reveals that Maduro handed over the territory to narco-terrorist groups such as the ELN and FARC dissidents,” Borges said in a message published on Twitter.
The head of diplomacy of Juan Guaidó’s interim government said that these criminal groups “are dedicated to extracting gold from the country, killing Venezuelans and destroying the environment,” he concluded.
The new update of the Bachelet Report, states: “Much of the mining activity, both inside and outside the Orinoco Mining Arc, is controlled by organized criminal groups or armed groups.”
“These are the ones who decide who enters or leaves the mining areas, impose rules, apply cruel physical punishment to those who violate those rules, and derive economic benefits from all activities in the mining areas, including resorting to extortion practices in exchange for protection,” she said.
Bachelet warned that “OHCHR also received information showing that, more recently, armed guerrilla groups have taken control of certain mines in the central part of Bolivar State and also in its east, near the border with Guyana”.
