The Presidential Commissioner for Foreign Relations, Julio Borges, called on the international community on Tuesday to set its sights on the latest events in relation to the Venezuelan claim on the Essequibo territory.
“Nicolás Maduro and his dictatorship have abandoned the fight for the Essequibo territory, in exchange for obtaining international political support from Guyana,” he declared.
Furthermore, the head of Legitimate Government diplomacy assured that the regime, instead of handling the issue as a State policy, with broad criteria and with the collaboration of all sectors of the country, has been negligent in this matter.
Likewise, the Venezuelan diplomat stressed that “it is essential to appoint an ad hoc judge and must deploy a professional defense of the rights of Venezuela” since Maduro’s dictatorship never objected to the oil concessions of Guyana in our territorial waters and they decided not to go to the ICJ to defend the rights of the nation.
Lastly, Borges urged the members of the FANB to fulfill their constitutional role of ensuring national sovereignty and not allowing the regime to continue the negligent management of the republic.
“We will continue fighting tirelessly for the defense of our Essequibo territory,” he concluded.
