The presidential commissioner for foreign relations, Julio Borges, said on Monday that Europe is going on the offensive against Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship, after countries like Slovakia have decided to recognize President Juan Guaidó and the European Parliament recently issued new sanctions.
“Countries like Slovakia have decided to recognize President Juan Guaidó for Maduro’s dictatorial actions. The European Parliament was forceful in rejecting the false CNE and making it clear that free presidential and parliamentary elections are required. In this way, Europe is going on the offensive on the Venezuelan crisis,” he said.
The representative of the Legitimate Government’s foreign policy stressed that the European Parliament’s resolution highlights the presidential solution. “We have been emphatic in saying that free presidential elections are required in order to put the country on the road to a real political solution. Mr Maduro is determined to take over the political parties and hand them over to people linked to the corruption of Alex Saab,” he said.
He also said that it is very important that the region, in the midst of the health crisis, renews the pressure on Maduro and his close entourage. He reiterated that the proposal for a national emergency government, presented by the president in charge, Juan Guaidó, stipulates the democratic guarantees for moving towards a political transition that will serve to address the COVID-19 crisis and move towards a presidential election.
Finally, Borges explained that this week they will be working on the cycle of talks that his office is promoting on the subject of the Chilean transition and the role of the Armed Forces. He pointed out that today more than ever the FANB must take a step to reestablish constitutional order and rescue the sovereignty taken over by narco-terrorist groups.
