United Nations Commissioner for Human Rights Miguel Pizarro urged Nicolás Maduro’s regime to comply with the requirements requested by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet.
On several occasions, Bachelet has requested true and transparent information on the humanitarian crisis facing Venezuela. However, no member of the dictatorship has offered data that reflects the reality of the country.
Pizarro recalled that the High Commissioner pointed out in one of her reports the importance of providing protection to health workers and that “at no time did she mention capturing them as the regime has done, or leaving them to their fate without basic supplies for their protection.”
The Commissioner reiterated that in the latest reports, Bachelet also demanded the release of political prisoners held by the Venezuelan regime, an end to torture of military prisoners, and the elimination of the Special Action Forces (FAES). This has not happened either.
“The regime doesn’t even keep track of their lies, they can’t agree on the message and moreover, when it doesn’t suit them they label the High Commissioner’s statements as false and manipulated and when they feel like it they distort them and take advantage of them. Double standards”, said Pizarro this Tuesday through his personal Twitter account.
These statements were made public after Jorge Arreaza, a member of Maduro’s regime, mentioned the High Commissioner’s statements about the “urgent worldwide clamor” to ease the sanctions against the Venezuelan dictatorship.
