The Presidential Commissioner for the United Nations, Miguel Pizarro, welcomed the appointment of Patricia Tappatá Valdez as the new expert who will be part of the Independent Fact Finding Mission for Venezuela.
“We express our gratitude to Paul Seils for his management during the time he was part of the Mission, as well as our support to the experts Marta Valiñas, Francisco Cox and Patricia Tappatá in the work they continue to do to show the Venezuelan reality and give a voice to the victims,” said Com. Pizarro in a message posted on his social network accounts after the announcement was made by the UN Human Rights Council.
In 2020, the Mission’s mandate was extended for two more years, therefore, the update of its report is expected at the next session of the Human Rights Council.
When announcing the appointment of Ms. Tappatá, the UN Human Rights Council highlighted her career in the field of Human Rights, Justice and Democratic Reforms, and considered that she will provide a perspective and knowledge about Latin America that are vital at this time to analyze and document the difficult situation in Venezuela from a humanitarian point of view, such as that of human rights.
