The President of Venezuela, Juan Guaidó, asked for the “Rearming the offensive of struggle, strengthening the mechanisms of participation and ‘push’, with the student force, the conformation of the National Emergency Government. So remarked the President in charge to the student movement of the country this Thursday during a virtual meeting.
“The National Emergency Government is urgent and needs the student force and the impetus of the youth. The proposal has the support of more than 40 countries, it is up to us in Venezuela to do the rest to achieve its formation, and where the participation of all sectors is guaranteed,” said Guaidó.
The interim president explained that such a proposal is not ‘isolated’, but that it arose from the talks in Norway last year, from which the regime walked away. He stressed that the National Emergency Government cannot be led by those who are accused of drug trafficking, corruption and human rights violations, but neither can it be formed by only the forces opposing the regime.
He confirmed to the young students that the National Emergency Government will delegate to the State Council the fundamental decisions in management of the Executive, emergency care, stability and reconciliation of the country.
“It is urgent to rearm the offensive, strengthen the mechanisms of struggle, among other tasks. We must reinvent ourselves and accelerate the processes, but without forgetting that united and together is the only way to advance and achieve the common objectives: to end this crisis, to achieve freedom and change in Venezuela”.
In the virtual meeting of approximately one hour, representatives of most of the country’s universities were present.
The leading edge
The university students expressed and ratified their support for President (E) Guaidó and the national Parliament during the meeting, but they also presented petitions and a report on the state of the universities after two months of confinement by COVID-19.
Among the main requests they made was to have a student representative within the National Emergency Government, to create the figure of a Presidential Student Commissioner to attend to the entire education sector, economic support for foreign students while the quarantine lasts due to the presence of the Coronavirus in the country, and economic support to attend to the situation of the universities, most of which have been ransacked in the last two months.
In this regard, the interim president said that each of the approaches will be addressed, but said that after the implementation of the Plan “Heroes of Health”, the next sector to receive attention will be education (which includes students).
