The President of Venezuela, Juan Guaidó, defined as “terrifying” the Report of the “Detailed Conclusions of the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela”, presented this Wednesday at the United Nations Human Rights Council.
“Today marks a before and after for all the victims of the dictatorship, for all the relatives, NGOs and human rights defenders, and for all those who have dared to denounce, despite the threats. It is a terrifying report, which shows the world the immense pain and suffering of thousands of Venezuelans. A report that makes us ask ourselves, how did human beings come to commit these atrocities against other Venezuelans?”
The statement was made by President (e) Guaidó through a live broadcast through his social network accounts, where he also said it marks a before and after for Nicolás Maduro, Padrino Lopez, Néstor Reverol, and their families. They are immersed in persecution, murder and torture against Venezuelans. He emphasized that they were certified before the world as “perpetuators of crimes against humanity, of heinous crimes against humanity.”
In his message, the also re-elected President of the National Assembly, cited some of the cases contained in the UN Independent Mission Report, among which he named that of a young man who was threatened with rape by police officers after being arrested.
He also said that the suffering of the people could no longer be ignored. He said that he was “moved and filled with regret”, because behind this report there are human beings, sons and daughters, husbands, fathers, mothers, victims, civilians and military, who were tortured, raped, murdered and disappeared for the only crime of fighting for a better country.
“This report shows that the objective (of the regime) was to eliminate the opposition. It fills us with regret yes, but at the same time it gives us strength. It vindicates us, supports us and gives us hope. As President in charge I must say: thank you to all those Venezuelans, men and women; even officials, who gave their testimony, risking their freedom and their lives, so that the world could know the truth about the tyranny that persecutes us, arbitrarily imprisons us, tortures us and kills us”.
The President in charge of Venezuela announced that he called an emergency meeting with national and international experts to prepare actions from the interim government and the Parliament to help bring to justice those indicated in the Report.
No more neutrality
In his message, Guaidó addressed the international community and those who still support the regime, asking them to stop supporting a “human rights violator.”
“The relativization of our suffering is over, the false neutrality with which many have wanted to disguise their support for a criminal regime out of false ideological solidarity is over. Never again will we have to tolerate being told that we were exaggerating”.
The governments of Mexico and Argentina, in particular, were asked to “open their eyes”.
The President in charge also sent a message to the National Armed Forces (FAN).He asked them not to ignore the UN Report and not to continue being “accomplices of the dictator”.
“To the young military men, I say: look at yourselves in the mirror of your superiors. You are sustaining a criminal who has used you to murder and torture your people. Our hands remain extended to those who decide to side with the Constitution.
To Venezuelans, Guaidó said that “the time has come for unity and union to confront tyranny.”
Finally, and apropos of the revealing UN Report presented this Wednesday, he asked himself how it is possible that “today the dictator holds a chair” at the United Nations.
