The Legitimate Government of the Bolivarian Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela denounces before the national and international public opinion the new affront of Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship against democracy and the country’s institutions through the alleged disqualification from holding public office for a period of 15 years of part of the regime’s Comptroller against the President in Charge Juan Guaidó and against another 28 legitimate Deputies of the Republic.
The Deputies whose political activity has been prohibited by the dictatorship through this action are: Marco Aurelio Quiñones, Armando Armas, Julio Montoya, Ismael García, Mariela Magallanes, Antonio Geara, Carlos Berrizbeitia, Juan Miguel Matheus, Richard Blanco Cabrera, Rafael Veloz, Luis Florido, Germán Ferrer, Alexis Paparoni, Carlos Paparoni, Freddy Guevara, Juan Andrés Mejía, Franco Casella, Gaby Arellano, Renzo Prieto, Sergio Vergara, Carlos Valero, Winston Flores, José Manuel Olivares, Ambassador Tomás Guanipa, Commissioners Julio Borges , Américo De Grazia, Carlos Paparoni, the First Vice President of the National Assembly Juan Pablo Guanipa and the President-in-Charge Juan Guaidó.
In the case of President Guaidó, he already has orders of supposed disqualifications against him there are more than 60 years of rulings of no practical value. In the same way, this is added to the multiple acts of harassment and attacks against the parliamentary jurisdiction, the physical integrity and the freedom of the Deputies of the Republic.
This new action against President Guaidó and against our Deputies is a sign of the absolute absence of conditions to exercise politics in Venezuela and helps us to remember why we undertook the fight for free elections for our country. Today the dictatorship uses any of the kidnapped institutions as weapons to prevent citizens from being able to elect their representatives in a transparent and free way, which is why we stopped validating their electoral farces.
In this context, actions such as the sanctions issued yesterday by the European Union become more relevant. As long as the dictatorship disables political leaders, hijacks political parties, co-opts democratic institutions, and prevents that the will of the Venezuelan people and as long as the conditions for it to be carried out is not respected at the polls, the world will continue to ignore and act against those who today usurp power and against who continue to lend themselves to be their accomplices.
The path that the dictatorship continues to travel only leads us to a loop that harms us all as a nation. They act against the institutionality, and that’s why the democratic forces do not validate their actions, the world rejects them, and they continue to respond with repression. The only way out of this cycle is through a true political solution that allows the people to regain their rights, especially the right to choose. That is why the Legitimate Government will continue to fight so that the voice of our citizens is respected through free, fair and transparent presidential and parliamentary elections that put an end to the crisis that we suffer today as a nation.
