To the national and international public opinion:
As Commissioner for the United Nations Organization of the Government in Charge of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, I wish to emphasize the false nature of the information released today by Maduro’s regime, in which an attempt is made to accuse the National Assembly of Venezuela and the Interim Government of President Juan Guaidó of having refused an alleged agreement in which was negotiated for Venezuela the purchase of vaccines for the COVID-19 pandemic.
From the Interim Government and the National Assembly of Venezuela we have reiterated every day our willingness to articulate efforts with national and international organizations that contribute to the care and assistance to Venezuelans who are victims not only of the pandemic, but also of the Complex Humanitarian Emergency that our country suffers.
Said provision was also clearly stated in the “AGREEMENT ON THE NEED FOR VENEZUELA’S PARTICIPATION IN THE COVAX MECHANISM OF THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION AND THE GLOBAL ACCESS FUND FOR COVID-19 VACCINES” approved on January 3rd, 2021 in the Extraordinary Session of the National Assembly by the Delegate Commission.
In addition in this agreement, we committed to carry out all the necessary steps before the institutional, international and humanitarian actors involved, in order to search and procure the necessary resources so that Venezuela and Venezuelans can access, in an efficient, timely and unhindered manner to high quality vaccines, clinically approved under scientific and bioethical standards, with international certifications and endorsed by the World Health Organization, and that the implementation is carried out through international humanitarian agencies and with supervision and participation of civil society.
Therefore, we reiterate our full willingness to find solutions that allow us to address the crisis that Venezuelans suffer today, provided that neither assistance nor information is manipulated or politicized.
