The Legitimate Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela welcomes and appreciates the actions and the strong support we received from the Foreign Ministers of the European Union, the Lima Group, and the Joint Declaration of 31 countries, rejecting the December parliamentary electoral farce put forward by the dictatorship and support the formation of a National Emergency Government to end the suffering of the Venezuelan people.
1. Yesterday, Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship and its latest attempt to impose an electoral farce to overthrow any semblance of legitimacy and institutionality in Venezuela, received categorical worldwide condemnation exposing the arbitrary nature of its actions and obtaining, four months before attempting to execute it, a definitive defeat. The world has ignored the fraudulent nature of the attempt to kidnap the Legislative Power and has once again shaken the hand of the Venezuelan people in their fight for freedom.
2. What happened reminds us that we are not alone. As difficult as the struggle we have undertaken as Venezuelans has become, this is a reminder that as long as we do not give up and continue to give all our efforts to obtain the freedom of an entire country, we will continue to be accompanied until we reach our objectives.
3. We want to send a message to those who today continue to support the usurper of Miraflores. What happened yesterday in multiple international forums is a warning that the bet sold to them by Nicolás Maduro, in which the international community “was going to get tired” and allow Venezuela to become a second Cuba, is not going to prosper. The only sensible decision for you, your relatives and Venezuela is to take a step towards the restoration of constitutional order.
4. Today all the world’s democracies are reaffirming that Maduro’s dictatorship does not meet the slightest requirements for free and fair elections. In recent hours, practically all the countries of Latin America, Europe and the rest of the world have confirmed this.
In view of this situation, the only viable solution to save the Venezuelan people from suffering, is to carry out a process of transition to democracy. We therefore reiterate that our call is to form a National Emergency Government, which will save us from a crisis that is worsening day by day and will lead us to truly free elections to decide our future. In the meantime, we democrats will continue to resist together until we defeat the dictator.
