The Legitimate Government of Venezuela is pleased to inform the international community and the Venezuelan people of the recent public statement of Fatou Bom Bensouda, Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, as follows:
Today, a new step has been taken so that justice may prevail and truth may prevail in the face of so many injustices committed in recent years: the statements issued today by the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court assigned to the Venezuela case, affirm that there are grounds to consider that crimes against humanity have occurred in our country. Such diagnosis on the perpetuated crimes coincide with the Facts Verification Report of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
2. Despite the fact that a delegation from Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship was received by representatives of the Criminal Court, a fact that we reject and strongly denounce, we emphasize that Nicolás Maduro’s regime suffered a resounding defeat on the plane of international justice since they were formally notified of the reality that they cannot hide: they are marked as criminals against humanity and their crimes will not be ignored.
3. This important fact obliges us to remind all civilian and military officials who still support Maduro’s regime that crimes against humanity are not time-limited and that, if they are complicit in them by action or omission, they could end up being designated as criminals against humanity for the rest of their lives at both the UN and the ICC. Therefore, there is still time to contribute to the restitution of the constitutional order, the enforcement of human rights of the Venezuelan people and the protection of their career, freedom and family.
4. The Legitimate Government of Venezuela assumes this fact as a new impulse to redouble the efforts that will allow us to bring Maduro’s dictatorship before international justice as a result of the right to justice that the people of Venezuela are entitled to.
The Legitimate Government of Venezuela will continue to accompany the Venezuelans in this clamor, which can only be resolved with the restitution of the rule of law, freedom and the achievement of free, fair and verifiable presidential and parliamentary elections.
