The Presidential Commissioner for Human Rights, Humberto Prado, recalled the 32th anniversary of ‘El Caracazo’ and highlighted the pain of the victims of that historical event that continues to be reenacted to this day.
“On this date it stands out that 32 years later events that violate citizens’ human rights and violate their rights continue to occur,” Prado said in a message posted on Twitter.
The official of the Legitimate Government stressed that the State must comply with the sentence of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IDH) and protect the lives of Venezuelans.
“The pain of the Caracazo victims continues to reproduce because the Venezuelan State has not yet committed itself to non-repetition measures,” he added.
Prado stressed that the arbitrary detentions, forced disappearances, torture and extrajudicial executions, marked by impunity, committed during the Caracazo continue to take place in Venezuela 32 years later.
