This Monday the Atlantic Council held a meeting within the framework of the General Assembly of the United Nations Organization (UN) that addressed the discussion about the serious crisis that Venezuela is going through, and the danger that Nicolas Maduro’s dictatorship represents for the region.
The President (E) of the Republic, Juan Guaido, appeared at the Atlantic Council through a video conference where he reiterated the importance of the support of the international community to achieve the cessation of usurpation.
Guaido said that the dictatorship of Nicolas Maduro has brought about a tragedy in Venezuela comparable only with countries at war or with those that have gone through natural disasters.
“Maduro excuses himself in the sanctions that the international community has imposed on him for being corrupt and human rights violators, when in fact, Venezuelans have been living this crisis for many years”, said the President of the National Assembly.
The president explained that the crisis that Venezuelans are experiencing is a product of corruption, abandonment of the economy and the national productive apparatus. Likewise, he said that his nationals “are living in extreme poverty or have emigrated to sister countries. You are witness of the hardships of our brothers who migrated to your countries, they have told you what we suffer.”
“The report presented by High Commissioner Michelle Bachelet leaves no room for doubt, in Venezuela we live in a regime that is oppressive, authoritarian, a human rights violator that condemns millions to live in poverty and persecution. This situation must end, we must put an end to the suffering of millions and as long as Maduro’s regime keeps usurping power, this situation will continue and even get worse”, said the president in charge.
Juan Guaido culminated his message explaining that “this is the moment of the international community but also of the Venezuelans, a just cause that holds the majority of Venezuelans united.”
