The President of Venezuela and of the National Assembly (NA), Juan Guaidó, defined the dictatorship’s attempt to eliminate the direct vote for the election of indigenous deputies as a “show of contempt” by the regime towards the indigenous peoples.
“Our respect, support and accompaniment to the indigenous peoples. We are going to fight to recover their dignity and that of all Venezuelans. The dictatorship’s disdain for the indigenous people is reflected once again in its attempt to end their political rights”.
Guaidó made the accusations during the “Debate on the alleged violation of the political rights of the Indigenous Peoples,” which took place in the online session of the National Parliament where he also said that the regime wants to continue making fun of the communities and ancestral peoples, as they did in 2016 “by annulling an entire federal entity and an election to not recognize the electoral defeat they took.”
He cited as another “sign of the disdain” of the dictatorship towards the indigenous people the handing over of lands in a “deliberate, voluntary and complicit way, to drug traffickers, terrorist groups and mercenaries,” as in the case of the Mining Arc, where indigenous and ethnic communities have been displaced thus destroying the present and future of the country.
“It is time to stop this tragedy. This is the worst moment in the republican life of Venezuela, and it is only comparable to countries at war. With the difference that this war is generated from the dictatorship, from the usurpation of power against the citizens, against the indigenous people. There is no doubt that today the problem is Maduro”.
The President in charge once again ratified the refusal not to participate in the “fraud” of December 6th because the conditions for free, fair and verifiable elections do not exist.
“We are not going to legitimize any kind of fraud by the dictatorship, on the contrary, we are going to fight for the conditions that will allow us a real solution to the crisis and to attend to the Complex Humanitarian Emergency. The European Union has just ratified this: to not validate a fraud, because there are no conditions for an electoral process. We must remain unified around a transition.”
