In order to “save Venezuela and face fraud” the President of the country and of the National Assembly, Juan Guaidó, called for a great Unitary Pact of all sectors of the nation, to whom he also asked to commit and publicly agree “urgently on a common route” to present to Venezuelans.
Through a video broadcast on Wednesday, August 19th, by the official channels of the interim government and Guaidó’s social network accounts, he said that as the President in charge it is his duty to propose a “concrete agenda of struggle and mobilization.
“Today, I officially call on and commit all the democratic forces linked to the struggle to urgently agree on a common route that we can present to the country. I make special emphasis on the leaderships of people whose commitment I respect despite the differences that may exist in the forms that may exist: Andrés Velásquez, Antonio Ledezma, Henry Ramos Allup, Manuel Rosales, María Corina Machado, Delsa Solórzano, Henrique Capriles, Julio Borges, Roberto Enríquez, Leopoldo López. The decisive moment has come for all national leaderships to assume the responsibility that we all have in this hard context that necessarily rethinks the board”.
He stressed that he has the duty to deliniate a road map to “face fraud and save Venezuela”. He also proposed to assume the commitment of discussing and agreeing on a common path in the next 10 days, expecting each of those summoned to give a “public and active response that shows the common disposition to give back freedom to Venezuela.”
Guaidó recalled that the progress made in the struggle for change in Venezuela has been achieved in unity and “with a monolithic strategy of the democratic forces.”
“I do not ask for blind obedience, or unanimity, but I do ask for willingness and humility to listen to each other, to put forward our ideas, to give in as soon as it is strategic to give in, to risk what is inevitable to risk and thus build a common path to free and save Venezuela. Therefore, I am calling on the main leaders and political and social organizations of the country to present to you the route we have built. To listen to and incorporate their visions and build a great Unitary Pact together.
In the message addressed to Venezuelans and the different political and social sectors of the country, the President in charge advanced part of the plan that he prepared with his government team and which he will discuss with each of those summoned.
Among the main actions contained in the proposal are: denouncing, rejecting and ignoring parliamentary fraud. Calling on the country to express its true will through a national and international mechanism of massive citizen participation in order to strongly exercise the majority, and activating an agenda of action and national and international mobilization to achieve the necessary response by the Armed Forces, the international community and each of the allies.
“I will dedicate the next few days to present and consult individually and in groups with the different leaderships and social sectors of democratic society the road map I have developed so that, after listening to us and debating, we can achieve a common and definitive route to present to the Venezuelans and allies of the world. The time has come to take a new fundamental step for the future of our nation because the present and future belong to Venezuela and to everyone.”
Guaidó recalled that the struggle for the change that the country urgently needs is not only the political leaders nor the parties, but also the workers and the peasants; the unions; the university professor and the teacher of the most remote school in Venezuela; the student “who does not allow himself to be bent, because his strength is in fighting against any injustice.”
“I call on all those who feel that they have tried to take away the country from them, but they are still standing in the struggle. I summon the blessing and the action of the priest and the pastor. Our struggle surpasses any group and unites them all. This is how we reactivate the hope and the mobilization of the people. In this way we will maintain and increase the space for international support. This is how we will achieve the constitutional action of the Armed Forces.”
Without any qualms, Guaidó recognized that in this search and realization of the change that will lead Venezuela to freedom, that there have been failures but that does not mean that he is going to abandon the struggle. On the contrary, he ratifies his commitment to continue moving forward.
“I, Juan Guaidó, assume my responsibility, but above all I assume the commitment to continue the struggle no matter what it costs me, to make the necessary corrections to achieve the freedom of our nation. To achieve this, I need your commitment and support. We are aware of the failures committed and the objectives postponed by the circumstances.”
He said that “no one and nothing” will forgive us if, in these “dark hours”, we do not do our best to “put the national interest above any differences and read the national and global context correctly.”
