The President in Charge of Venezuela, Juan Guaidó, declared that if the assassination of alias Jesús Santrich, leader of the dissidence of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), in Venezuelan territory is confirmed, the regime of Nicolás Maduro must explain itself, since this guerrilla group was protected by the leaders of the dictatorship.
During a press conference, this Wednesday, May 19th, he stated that the sovereignty of Venezuela is exposed and violated by Maduro’s negligence and complicity. “A week ago we announced the murder of Venezuelan soldiers in the exercise of their duty, killed by a faction of the Dissident FARC led by alias Santrich, who was allegedly assassinated yesterday in Venezuelan territory. What is the dictatorship going to say about it?” Guaidó questioned.
The also president of the legitimate National Assembly indicated that the articulation of all sectors is necessary, highlighting that young Venezuelan soldiers are being killed at our borders. He wonders if the regime will continue to expose our soldiers to these risks without living wages or health insurance.
“A National Salvation Agreement becomes even more pertinent and urgent, a solution to the conflict in order to save lives (…) The National Agreement is not only a negotiation, that is not enough. It must be accompanied by international pressure, internal pressure, and guarantees,” stressed the interim president.
He assured that guarantees are being sought for everyone, including the Armed Forces. As he also recalled: “Who is the one that today does not allow vaccines like AstraZeneca’s to enter through the COVAX system, risking the lives of thousands of Venezuelans? Maduro’s regime. We are going to make arrangements in the vaccine market to also receive donations.”
Furthermore, he stressed that the democratic alternative is ready for an agreement to solve the conflict that exists in the country. He regretted that in Venezuela many families are still in mourning: “Saving Venezuela is saving the family.”
