The Legitimate Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela recognizes the courage of the Catholic Church in our country following the publication of its latest Pastoral Exhortation, in which it focuses very precisely on the magnitude of the political and social crisis currently affecting our nation.
In the face of this, we emphasize:
1. We share the deep concern about the social crisis of our people. We reiterate our commitment to do everything possible to get the international aid that our country needs ensuring that it reaches the people directly or is handled by international bodies to prevent theft or extortion.
This is not only a political slogan but has been transformed into action: both the humanitarian aid we have managed to bring to the country and the agreement reached with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) reflect the real commitment of President (e) Juan Guaidó and the Legitimate Government.
2. We highlight the criticism and rejection of the parliamentary fraud that Maduro regime’s is trying to carry out after the illegitimate appointment of an electoral power tailored to the dictatorship by its judicial arm.
We rescue the call to all political factors, which continue to doubt about what role they should play in this situation, not to validate this electoral farce that distances us from a real solution to the crisis, and understand the moral weight of their decisions as a result of this call made by the Venezuelan Episcopate.
3. We support and value very positively that the Venezuelan Episcopal Conference (CEV) is calling for “urgent change of government” as a result of the collapse that Maduro’s dictatorship has brought to Venezuela.
From the Legitimate Government we reiterate our proposal to form a National Emergency Government, in which even President (e) Juan Guaidó himself has expressed his willingness to cede the powers of the Executive to a pluralistic Council of State in order to guarantee a peaceful and successful transition that will result in a process of free, fair and verifiable elections.
Finally, we would like to highlight and recognize the great work that the Venezuelan Catholic Church continues to do in helping those most in need, as well as its firm commitment to the defense of human rights and Venezuelan democracy.
