The Interim Government of Venezuela wishes to inform the entire international community that today a group of deputies, as they were preparing to enter the Federal Legislative Palace, were victims of a firearm attack by paramilitary groups affiliated with Nicolás Maduro’s regime.
These events occurred in the presence of the State security bodies, which allowed these violent groups to act with total impunity. Likewise, we inform that the Federal Legislative Palace was again militarized by the dictatorship.
Given this situation of risk for our parliamentarians, we have decided to move today’s session of parliament to another, safer space. Today, more than ever, the regime is resorting to violence to intimidate and silence the only legitimate power that exists in Venezuela.
We ask all governments and democratic leaders to reject these acts of violence propitiated by the regime and to continue exerting all pressure in the face of a dictatorship that ignores the rule of law.
Despite all the attacks, we reiterate our commitment to Venezuela and ratify the strength of our struggle.
