The situation of domestic gas shortages in Merida is becoming increasingly evident with long queues at the commercial establishments that sell them.
Merideños have between two and three months without access to small and medium sized (propane) gas cylinders.
“The situation is a little difficult. I am an elderly person, I have health problems and I cannot cook with firewood,” said Francis Duque, a resident of Merida State.
Eduviges Altuve, also from Merida, said she went to a PDVSA office and was told that the gas had not arrived. “We are cooking with wood,” she said.
Cooking with firewood is the only option citizens have in the face of the lack of gas and the power cuts that have intensified in the region. Meridians can spend from 6 to 10 hours a day without electricity.
