The Covid-19 pandemic is interfering in all sectors of the country. Students are being affected by tuition fees at private universities and by the cessation of jobs, which prevents them from earning money to pay for their studies.
Students at private universities on Margarita Island, Nueva Esparta State, say they could lose their studies because of the economic crisis that has been made worse by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The student population is having difficulty paying tuition fees at this time.
“They are not producing enough money to pay for college. In the case of IUTIRLA, the semester is around $80, which for an average student is impossible to pay in this circumstance,” said student leader Simon Calderon.
The student also called on private universities to understand the current situation and to establish payment mechanisms that will help students stay in school.
Calderon explained that in the face of the Coronavirus pandemic, it is impossible for them to receive classes at a distance because of the constant failures in the electrical and Internet service throughout the island of Margarita.
