At least 28 Venezuelans died trying to cross the strait between Güira, Sucre state, and the island of Trinidad and Tobago between December 12th and 13th. The victims were fleeing from Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship on December 6th in a ‘peñero’ (artisanal open fishing boat) bound for Trinidad and Tobago, but they were returned from the territory of that country and were shipwrecked on their return.

This tragedy set the entire nation in mourning. However, officials of Nicolás Maduro’s regime tried to redress the situation by offering a identification operation, delivery of computers and medical services.

The people of Sucre all but rejected the presence of the representatives of the dictatorship and took them out of the facilities where they were with shouts and slogans of repudiation.

Congressman Robert Alcalá supported the actions of the population and stressed that citizens will not accept more populism from the regime.

“These are the expressions of a people that refuse to continue being humiliated by them,” he said this Saturday through his personal Twitter account.

Likewise, the parliamentarian reported that the ‘Güireños’ are also protesting for justice, security and the cessation of the violation of human rights by Maduro’s regime.

“The indignation of the people was the overflow of anger of a people that is hungry and sunk in pain by the tragedy of the castaways of Güiria,” he ended.

For his part, Deputy Carlos Valero, described the actions of the regime as a “show” while the citizens are in mourning.

“The word inhuman is too small for that claim!” He asserted.

Likewise, Parliamentarian Marco Aurelio Quiñones, assured that the inhabitants of Güiria demonstrated honesty, integrity and courage because they did not fall for the actions of the dictatorship.

“The regime tried in vain to buy them and silence them with equipment and ‘canaimas’ (Gov issue tablets). Güiria and the whole of Venezuela only want peace, freedom and the option to progress without having to leave our land,” he insisted.
