Hemophiliac patients and relatives protested in different states of Venezuela because of the risk their lives are in due to the indolence and irresponsibility of Maduro’s regime.
In Nueva Esparta, the association of hemophiliacs of the entity demanded the purchase of blood factors and medications to be able to stop the death of patients.
While in Táchira the patients stated that they fear for their lives, since they have already been affected by the lack of treatment for 5 years.
Jorge Arboleda, a patient with hemophilia, declared “I have time in a wheelchair or with crutches, complicated right now with swelling of my legs for missing my treatment for so long, my left elbow is crooked.”
They added that the costs of the treatments range between $ 5,000 and $ 20,000 per month and that if they had had their medications on time, they would have prevented them from devolving into wheelchairs or crutches.
For their part, in Lara, representatives of the Venezuelan Hematology Association warned that 414 of the 5,170 people with hemophilia live in Lara, and they are at imminent risk of irreversible damage or death.
Victor Rivero, representative of the Venezuelan Association of Hematology, reported “91 people have died in the last 5 years due to hemorrhages that they presented because they did not have the medicine.”
While in Guarico family members claimed that because the regime has stopped providing medical treatments, some patients have been complicated with joint damage.
Meliska Ñañez, mother of a hemophiliac patient, indicated that her son “has been hospitalized 6 times, he looks worse every day due to the fact that he does not receive it (treatment).”
Likewise, Manuelbis Pereira, a volunteer for the Venezuelan Association for Hemophilia in Guárico, added “joint damage is very high in both children and adults, which is totally avoidable if the purchase of this high-cost treatment is made. This does not happen in any other country, but in Venezuela, because with hemophilia you can lead a completely normal life as long as you have your anticoagulant factor,” she concluded.
