Hospitals in Anzoátegui State are not able to deal with an epidemic like Coronavirus.
Health workers say they are vulnerable to epidemics because the main health care centers in eastern Venezuela do not even have a supply of potable water.
Rafael Simosas, representative of the health (workers) union, said that if the epidemic that has hit different countries of the world were to arrive, he would put health workers and patients “on the run”, since there are no conditions place to deal with such an emergency.
“There are no operating ambulances, the laboratories are not functioning, many areas are not functioning,” he denounced.
The rates of absenteeism due to illness by health workers have increased so far this year, since low salaries do not allow access to balanced proper diet, which weakens the immune system of those who work in the country’s hospitals.
The provision of supplies, salary adjustments to at least $600 to cover the basic food basket and improvement in working conditions are some of the demands that doctors and nurses make in order to continue saving lives.
