The crisis in Venezuela has destroyed the purchasing power of Venezuelans, the increasing devaluation of the currency and hyperinflation, which has led citizens to suffer from malnutrition due to poor quality food intake and the poor standard of living that Maduro’s regime has caused.

Buying good quality protein has become a luxury for most Venezuelans who depend on a salary in bolivars, which is equivalent to less than three dollars, which is enough for only half a carton of eggs (15 eggs).

Thousands of Venezuelans eat once or maybe twice a day and most citizens do not have access to protein.

“Most of the time you don’t buy or sometimes I buy chicken or meat, but little by little. Right now you have to eat, sometimes you don’t have breakfast to be able to have a good lunch and a half dinner because the money is not enough.” denounced the citizen María García, resident of Táchira State.

Colombian peso: official currency

In Táchira State, the Colombian peso has almost become the official currency of the region, so that hundreds of ‘Táchirenses’ who depended on formal jobs in private companies or public institutions, are now engaged in the informal economy, with merchandise imported from Colombia .

Despite the situation in the border states, the majority of the population depends on income in Bolívares, so that, in terms of food, the salary is only enough to buy viscera or skin.

In Venezuela, a political change is urgently needed to recover the quality of life that has been lost in the country in the last 15 years.
