Venezuela protein consumption by its citizens has fallen by 60% due to the serious crisis and hyperinflation that plagues the country.
Since the most recent increase in the prices of meat products, the consumption of chicken as well as beef and beef products fell again on Margarita Island.
For October 31st, there was talk of a fall of 40% and since last week with the new prices that place beef above 110 thousand bolivars per kilo, there was a fall of an additional 20%, placing the total decline at 60%, to date.
Gustavo Santiago, president of the Association of Butchers of Nueva Esparta, confirmed the behavior of sales, and said that even when the inventory of meat products is optimal, consumption tends to continue falling, because prices are tied to the fluctuations of the dollar.
Santiago assured that they have a good quantity in inventory and that the refrigerators are full of frozen products, the slaughterhouses have everything, but the problem is that there are no buyers.
