The Covid-19 pandemic arrived in Venezuela just when the country is experiencing the worst hospital crisis in its history. Nicolás Maduro’s regime keeps health centers without medicines, services and basic conditions to work.
Faced with this situation, the Medical Association of Aragua demanded that the State offer protective measures for all healthcare workers.
Ramón Rubio, president of the institution, explained that public and private entities must guarantee complete safety equipment to doctors, nurses, bioanalysts and healthcare personnel.
“Protective equipment is not giving a mouthpiece and a pair of gloves, it is all the equipment with which you handle patients with Covid-19,” he said.
Rubio also insisted that the cleaning equipment is necessary for the areas where there were patients infected with coronavirus. Otherwise, the cleaning protocols cannot be fully complied with.
“We see that of the 800 deaths officially reported, almost 250 correspond to health personnel at the national level,” the doctor reported.
The representative of the College of Physicians also expressed concern about the lack of protection for patients with or without Covid-19.
