This Sunday the funeral events were held by the ex-councilor of the Sucre municipality of Miranda state, Edmundo “Pipo” Rada, who was vilely murdered and burned on Thursday, October 17th.
During the mourning day, his comrades in struggle from Voluntad Popular and the Petare community that saw him grow up, gave him one last goodbye, remembering him as the great social leader he always was.
The events began from seven in the morning at the Club de los Abuelos, in the El Carpintero neighborhood of Petare. Hundreds of petareños came to the place to say goodbye with flowers, Venezuelan flags, banners, photos and signs. The president in charge of Venezuela, Juan Guaidó, deputies of the National Assembly, Rada’s team in Petare and the municipality of Sucre and leaders of other parties, also accompanied the funeral and offered condolences to his family.
“We are all very hurt in the community for Pipo’s departure, he was a good man and did not deserve to die like that. “We are dismayed by his death, we want justice, that boy was born here and raised here in Petare, he was an athlete”, commented some of those present.
Outside his grandparents’ house, some neighbors decided to remember Pipo playing the music he used to listen, highlighting that he was a cheerful man and it was better to say goodbye like that. Others placed Venezuelan flags at the entrances of their homes and most of the cars and motorized vehicles that were passing through the place played bugles in solidarity, making it clear that Edmundo Rada is a beloved and respected man in Petare.
“Pipo never hurt anyone, the neighbors of the community asked for justice”. Edmundo was appreciated throughout Petare, because he always sought to help those who needed him. “We all know that he was killed for a political reason because we all wanted him here”, said other neighbors.
A GOODBYE WITH HONORS
The president in charge of Venezuela, Juan Guaidó and the first lady Fabiana Rosales, participated in the acts carried out in honor of Edmundo Rada. The president helped carry the former councilman’s urn to the hearse. Subsequently, the mortal remains of Rada were taken to the VIth Chapel of the Monumental Funeral Home in La Guairita cementery, where members of the Sucre municipal team, the Miranda regional team, former councilmen, deputies of Voluntad Popular, youth section of the party, as well as the diplomatic corps in the country and the president (E) of the Republic paid him honors.
“Petare is not alone, they did take one of yours who fought for you, to not allow social control in the community to continue, but you have backing you all the national democratic political leadership to defend you. The dictatorship only has political assassination, they seek to assassinate social leaders to instill fear among the population because they know that nobody in Venezuela wants them anymore”, said Guaidó.
In an open casket wake in the Church of the Cementerio de Este and then the burial culminated this Sunday day in which it was evidenced that, although the regime ended the life of Edmundo Rada, his memory, work and struggle will be present in the heart of the petareños and of all those who had the opportunity to meet him.
