Political scientist and specialist in international political law, Carlos Luna, said that the latest resolution approved on Friday by the Organization of American States (OAS), represents a hard blow against Nicolas Maduro’s dictatorship.
“What happened in the OAS is a very significant event for Venezuela, for democracy, for the constitution and the need to build a National Emergency Government and above all to have a greater support from the Inter-American System,” said Luna.
The Venezuelan specialist recalled that “a resolution was voted rejecting the abuses of power by the Supreme Court of Justice to affect the constitutional powers provided for the National Assembly, in what has to do with Articles 295 and 296 of the Venezuelan Constitution regarding the appointment of the CNE’s rectors and everything that has to do with affecting the Venezuelan party system.”
“This is after the symbols and cards of Acción Democrática and Primero Justicia, the most voted political organizations in the last legitimate electoral process held in Venezuela, were hijacked by the judicial authorities,” he added.
Luna stressed that “this is the highest vote that Venezuela has obtained within the OAS in a resolution, which increases awareness on the characterization of the regime is and strengthens the OAS with respect to the values and principles provided for in the Inter-American Democratic Charter, and leaves with less support for anything that has to do with Nicolás Maduro.
“In addition, we have the fact of the abstention of seven states and the non-attendance of six. An abstention is a hidden, camouflaged negative vote, given the interests that these governments may have that bring them closer to the regime, but they do not agree with what is happening, they proceed to abstain,” he explained.
Finally, he stressed also “that within the points of the approved document there is the need for democratic factors in Venezuela to come together in order to generate a political transition. That strengthens the proposal made by the President in charge of the Republic, Juan Guaidó, of the need to join efforts to build a National Emergency Government that can meet the great needs in Venezuela.”
Abro hilo
