The National Directorate of Primero Justicia welcomes the pronouncement of the High Representative for International Affairs of the European Union, Joseph Borrel, where he points out the following elements:
1. Rejects the persecution of the National Assembly and its deputies, condemning the recent raid on the parliamentary immunity of five deputies of the National Assembly, including our parliamentary faction leader Jorge Millan.
2. Clearly points out that for the crisis to be resolved in Venezuela, “free and credible” presidential elections are needed.
3. Furthermore, it also clearly states that the legitimate National Assembly is the only one that can guarantee a balanced National Electoral Council, so its appointment must be made exclusively by that institution.
4. It also points out that any negotiation effort must include the recognition of the true significant and representative actors of the democratic forces in Venezuela.
This European Union communiqué ratifies what we at Primero Justicia have maintained: 2020 will be a year in which, together with the Venezuelans, we will fight so that there can be truly free presidential elections that will put an end to this regime that has subjected Venezuelans to the greatest humanitarian emergency in our history.
From Primero Justicia we call for the unity of all factors so that not only can we achieve from the National Assembly a new, reliable and honest National Electoral Council, but also so that we can cover the route that will allow us, with international support and internal pressure, to achieve a free presidential election that will give Venezuelans, with their vote, the power to change our country.
